Difference Between Vitamins and Proteins

Both are essential in a healthy diet, they have wide differences between them, for example, vitamins are essential for physiological functioning as they act as catalysts for them. Proteins are biomolecules created by amino acids necessary for the formation of tissue in the organism and for the synthesis of DNA.

Vitamins

They are heterogeneous compounds necessary for life, since they must be consumed in a balanced manner in the doses required to promote correct physiological functioning.

They are nutrients that function as direct or indirect catalysts of physiological methods. They are also precursors of coenzymes, they are divided into fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E and K) and water-soluble vitamins (complex B and vitamin C).

Protein

They are biomolecules created by linear chains of amino acids, according to their physical properties they can be separated into simple proteins formed only by amino acids, conjugated proteins, formed by amino acids and other different substances, and proteins from, formed by the denaturation and unfolding of the assembled proteins.

They are important for life because they make up 980% of the protoplasm of cells, essential for the growth and defense of the organism, they are the most diverse and versatile biomolecules.

Its functions include the following: contractile, enzymatic, structural, homeostatic, immunological, scab production, protective or defensive, and signal transduction.

Differences between vitamins and proteins

  • The term vitamin comes from the English vitamine, today vitamin, and at the same time from the Latin vita vida and the suffix amine.
  • Vitamins are fundamental heterogeneous compounds for the physiological functioning of the organism.
  • Most are not made by our bodies and need to be consumed from food.
  • The term protein comes from the French: protéine, and this from the Greek proteios, that is, prominent or of first quality.
  • Proteins are composed of amino acids and are fixed by the genetics of the living being. Proteins perform different functions within the body.
  • Vitamins are catalysts for various biological methods.
